Sound familiar?

You're doing the job well. So why does it still feel like you're about to be found out?

That's imposter syndrome - and it's the thing I hear from almost every manager I coach. I spent years fighting it myself before I found a way through. Now, with 18+ years in B2B leadership, I help other managers move past it into confident, capable leadership.

→ Break through imposter syndrome and lead with conviction
→ Move from managing a function to leading people
→ Build the presence and confidence the next level demands
the climb isn't a straight line - it never is

Meet your coach, Richard

18+ years in B2B leadership - manager to C-suite

I've made the climb you're making now - through the self-doubt, the step up into leading people, and the balancing act of a demanding career alongside a young family. I coach managers and directors making that same leap, one to one.

01

The struggle

Manager, but never a leader

I climbed the ladder quickly in the first ten years of my career. I studied a Diploma in Marketing and had a great mentor who led me through a successful time and into managing my function. But there was something missing - I was a manager, in a small, successful company, but I had never managed people.

When my mentor left, that's when the imposter syndrome started to creep in. Was I only progressing because of my mentor? How would I get to the next level without managing a team? I felt anxious about building a career while finding time for a young family - and for myself.

If any of that sounds familiar, it's exactly where I start with clients - helping them name what's really going on before we try to fix anything.

02

The solution

Stepping outside the comfort zone

I changed jobs. Moved out of my comfort zone to expand my skills, network and experience - and kept the relationships that mattered, taking an opportunity two years later to lead a team as marketing director.

I worked on myself in parallel. Covey's 7 Habits of Highly Effective People sharpened my professional habits. Dr Rangan Chatterjee's podcast, and later his books, reshaped how I thought about health and balance. An MBA and courses on leadership and impactful presenting rebuilt my confidence from the ground up.

I started leaning into the areas outside my comfort zone with a renewed drive and assurance - presenting, leading teams, building healthy habits.

I had found my formula to thrive and balance a demanding career with a young family.

Now I help clients build their own version of that formula - faster, and without having to work it out alone.

03

The success

Manager to C-suite

After taking the leap out of my comfort zone, my career took off. I overcame the imposter syndrome and grew from marketing director to CMO, holding a senior leadership position for over ten years. I later took the role of CRO, leading a commercial function of 54 people through multiple investment cycles.

My colleagues commented on the quality of my presentations and the confidence I delivered them with. And I managed the four pillars of my life - sleep, movement, stress, nutrition - to address my anxiety and find balance in a demanding career and a busy family life. I rarely missed a deadline. More importantly, I rarely missed a bedtime.

This is the coaching I now bring to managers and directors making that same climb.

Beyond one to one

Stepping out of the middle lane

Most managers I meet aren't stuck because they lack ability. They're stuck in the middle lane - competent, reliable, overtaken by people no more capable than them, because nobody ever showed them how to move.

The skills that get you promoted to manager are rarely the ones that get you promoted again. Nobody hands you the second set - you have to go and find it.

It's the same question I bring into every workshop I run and every one-to-one session I coach: what does the next version of you actually need to learn, unlearn, or stop tolerating? I use the same GROW questions on a room of managers that I use one to one - asking what promotion really means to them, what strengths they've shown, and what's quietly holding them back.

How I coach

Two tools. One conversation at a time.

I don't believe in generic coaching frameworks bolted onto your life. I use two tools I trust - one to see the whole picture, one to move through it - and apply them to whatever you actually bring into the room.

The map

THRIVE

My own diagnostic tool, scoring six areas of your life from 1–10 to build an honest picture of where you stand today - not just career, but the whole person behind it.

THRIVE
The process

GROW

Goal, Reality, Options, Will. Each session moves through this cycle so every conversation ends with clarity and something concrete to act on before we meet again.

The programme

Six sessions, one to one

Structured enough to build momentum, flexible enough to follow what's actually going on for you.

01

Baseline & goal

Complete your THRIVE assessment and use it to frame the goal we'll work toward over the programme.

02–05

Working sessions

Each session runs the GROW cycle - goal, reality, options, will - against your priority areas, with THRIVE revisited to track what's shifting.

06

Review & close

Re-score THRIVE against your baseline, review progress against your original goal, and agree what comes next.

What clients say

In their own words

"Working with you has helped me massively. You have supported me in analysing my challenges and understanding them from different angles, which has given me much more clarity on how to approach situations. You have also shared some really useful tools that I still use today, and I have found them to be very effective."

- Coaching client

"You often make me look at things from different perspectives, which helps me think outside the box. You've also helped me realise that small, consistent steps often have a much bigger and more sustainable impact than trying to fix everything or achieve a big change all at once. This mindset has helped me find practical solutions, improve the way I work, and approach different situations with more confidence and clarity."

- Coaching client

"Having someone hold me accountable has made a huge difference. As a result, I feel much more confident at work, more confident in my communication and collaboration with colleagues, and more confident and effective as a manager."

- Coaching client

"Overall, the coaching has had a very positive impact on me, and I genuinely appreciate the support, challenge and guidance you have provided throughout the process."
